WINTER FIELD LIFE SUPPORT
AKU alongside Wilderness Medical Service for outdoor healthcare training
Wilderness Medical Service
Wilderness Medical Service is a network formed by a group of healthcare professionals, with experience in medical assistance in outdoor environments . The field of action of the structure is wilderness medicine, a specialized field that deals with bringing medical assistance to all those areas and situations in which geographical conditions reduce the availability or alter the possibilities of access, movement and evacuation of patients in dangerous conditions or following accidents .
A service often offered alongside mountain rescue or directly during outdoor events, rather than in favor of production facilities operating permanently in a mountain context, such as ski lifts or high-altitude construction sites. An essential intervention activity therefore, both for occasional mountain visitors and for professional operators, called to act in first aid situations or in real emergencies due to adverse situations.
A field in which professional training represents a factor of absolute importance and as such must be managed, through constant updating activities with respect to new techniques to make the intervention of the operators increasingly effective .
Winter Field Life Support Course
From 27 to 29 January , the WMS Wilderness Medical Service team, led by Dr. Riccardo Mentasti, organized the first training course called Winter Field Life Support in Val di Zoldo, in the Belluno Dolomites, intended for medical and paramedical personnel, Alpine Rescue Technicians and RSA of companies in the mountain operational field. The topics of the course were wilderness medicine, emergency management in a remote environment, avalanche rescue and for injuries on the ski slopes. The course included classroom lessons with the presence of specialized technicians and field operations to simulate interventions in a snowy environment.
An initiative that saw the presence of AKU to provide a technical contribution to the
knowledge of certified outdoor footwear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), an essential part of the equipment of personnel who work professionally in the mountains in conditions of potential danger or for rescue operations in complete safety .
WMS training activities continue from 10 to 13 March at the Ski Civetta area on the border between Veneto and Trentino, with the SPOC PATROL RESCUE course, dedicated to rescue operations on ski slopes.
As a company, we are enthusiastic about providing our contribution of knowledge and technical advice to fuel and increase the level of awareness regarding the importance of the use of personal protective equipment by safety technicians, helping them to understand and orient themselves in the choice of the different types of products offered by the market in response to the different needs and operational contexts in which they are called to intervene.
A commitment that goes beyond commercial promotion and represents for the company an initiative of responsible commitment to nurture the culture of a conscious approach to the experience of contact with the mountains, both on the user's front and on that of the professional operator".
