The Polar Route - AKU and Matterazzo in Greenland

The Polar Route - La Traversata

The Polar Route - La Traversata is the new solo walking project of our ambassador Daniele. A 10-day trip to the west coast of Greenland, one of the most pristine territories on the planet, in the footsteps of the Inuit population. Daniele will leave on August 10th with the intention of returning to Italy on the 22nd of the same month. The name of the route was chosen for a twofold reason: it is a Northern route where the Polar Star has guided travelers throughout history, acting as a point of reference even in the absence of navigation instruments. In the same way The Polar Route - La Traversata wants to be a light for the future of disability support, for sport and inclusion. Every year, Daniele uses his free time in ambitious projects, transforming his passion for walking into a tool for raising awareness and raising funds. His travels and adventures, which aim to overcome the limits imposed by disability, also support causes dear to him such as disability itself, social inclusion and paediatrics.

During his journey, Daniele chose Superalp V-Light GTX, footwear for all hikers looking for maximum protection and comfort during many hours of use. Ideal for excursions such as Alte Vie and Nordic-style trekking which involve several days in complete autonomy, with heavy loads on the shoulders.
Greenland

Greenland, a land of extreme contrasts and breathtaking landscapes, paints a fascinating and at the same time hostile picture, where nature reigns supreme. The island, the largest in the world yet with a very low population density, is located between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, beyond the polar circle . A primordial territory, shaped by the forces of nature, where man appears as a silent and respectful guest. 80% of Greenland's surface is covered by permanent ice while the population centers can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Roads? Only 56 km in the whole country, the rest is an unspoiled kingdom dominated by rich arctic fauna. Greenland is not only pristine landscapes but also a land that is strongly affected by ongoing climate changes. At the same time, it offers opportunities for sustainable development, thanks to natural resources and the growing attention to eco-friendly tourism.

"The Polar Route": The Crossing

Eastern Greenland, with its untouched vastness and wild nature, represents one of the most remote and fascinating areas on the planet.

Daniele's route involves, in ten days , following and walking alone, an ancient seasonal migration route used since ancient times by the indigenous Arctic population of the Inuit people. Crossing eastern Greenland alone is an extraordinary adventure that blends history , nature and personal challenge . A ten-day journey along over 200 km of wild and uninhabited paths, to discover a spectacular natural territory. The crossing will start from the large ice cap called IceCap and will lead to the ocean precisely from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut, carrying on your shoulders a backpack with everything you need to camp , eat and resist the elements .

Fundraising

With this ambitious project , supported by the Mazzolla Foundation , Daniele aims to raise funds to expand the foundation's commitment to supporting outdoor projects dedicated to people with disabilities.
